A very common injury for children and Cale made the statistic higher. Last night, as I typed up the 4 sentences on my blog and sent a friend an email, the boys decided to play "JUMP!" We all know the end of the story.
Rewind 10 minutes.
Right as I sat down to type I heard the laughter and calls of "JUMP!" coming from my bedroom. I called them into the playroom/Mama's art cubicle and told them "NO more monkeys jumping off the bed." I was then informed that they were jumping ONTO the bed. Okay. I thought. I need to let them be kids. Jumping on the bed is pretty safe.
BUT what I neglected to calculate is that jumping ONTO the bed soon leads to jumping off of the couch. And jumping off of the couch soon leads to impatience in waiting for a turn to jump off the couch. And impatience for turn taking soon leads to pushing your brother off the couch so you can get your turn faster. And pushing your brother off the couch to get your turn faster soon leads to screams of bloody murder and all hell breaking loose because little brother landed on this arm in just the right spot to break it.
I refrained from rushing to the hospital. I didn't give into my urge. I had all 4 boys on my own and Cale was a mess anyway. I figured a good night sleep and a fresh morning would let me know whether he really needed x-rays. It is a real concern since he is exposed to radiation and gets x-rays regularly for the scoliosis.
But a good night sleep awoke to "My arm still hurts…" and LOTS of whining and screaming at people and not nice behavior. Luckily a buckle fracture is the best of a bunch of bad possible outcomes. He will only have to wear the cast until the first day of summer break. Just in time for the sprinkler.
