Chapter 11 was not a happy chapter for both Camara Laye and the readers reading the book. Therefore, we asked a couple of readers to express their feelings about this chapter.

"Hi my name is Kinan, and im from Syria. Okayy so this chapter wasn't a chapter I was actually happy to read. It started off with the narrator being annoyed by his mother and how she keeps on intruding her son's privacy, and it ends with the death of a beloved friend. "I feel as if I were living through these days and nights again. I have never spent any that were more wretched. To have lived so many happy days … and then for everything to be over!" (Laye 177). Before this point in the story, the mood was happy, and fun, and the narrator kept on improving in his life, learning and growing and meeting new people. However, now, the climax has been reach and falling action has begun."

"Hi, I'm a student in college and I know what it feels like when Laye's mother kept on intruding and disturbing his privacy. The reason behind that is her love for her child. She cares about him and wants to look after him and be close to him as possible. Therefore, That part of the chapter was not so sad. However, when Check, his friend died, the story started changing. The life of Laye has become sad now. Childhood has ended, and the falling action of the narrator's life is beginning."
